Updated September 15, 2026. This retailer buying guide compares manufacturer specifications for models in our catalog. HomeComforts Depot sells Forno and ZLINE. The selections below are based on fit and features, not laboratory or long-term reliability testing.
Which French door refrigerator should you choose?
Start with your available opening and the storage layout you need. Then choose between a narrower model, a counter-depth option and a larger standard-depth refrigerator. A French door refrigerator has two doors into the upper fresh-food compartment and freezer storage below; a pair of separate refrigerator and freezer columns is a different layout.
Our three-model shortlist is organized around those purchase needs. There is no single winner for every kitchen, and nominal width alone does not tell you whether a refrigerator can be installed and used comfortably.
Three French door refrigerators to compare
| Model | Capacity | Reason to shortlist | Key fit check |
|---|---|---|---|
| Forno Gallipoli FFFFD1974-31WHT | 17.5 cu. ft. | Narrower appliance with a white finish and bottom freezer | 29.9-inch body width; required opening is wider |
| ZLINE RFM-36, stainless steel | 22.5 cu. ft. | Counter-depth configuration with an ice maker | 35.75-inch body width; use the model's cutout drawing |
| ZLINE RSMZ-W-36-CB | 28.9 cu. ft. | More storage, external water and dual ice makers | Standard-depth body; check the aisle and door clearance |

For a narrower appliance: Forno Gallipoli FFFFD1974-31WHT
The Gallipoli combines a 17.5-cu.-ft. total capacity with an upper refrigerator compartment and a pull-out bottom freezer. This white version has antique-brass handles and an ice maker. It is worth shortlisting when you want a smaller appliance body than the 36-inch-class options below. Source: Forno model information.
Check the opening, not just the product name. The manufacturer's linked series drawing shows a body width of 29.9 inches and a cutout width of 33.84 inches. That is why a “30-inch” catalog label should not be read as approval for a 30-inch enclosed opening. Have the installer review the current drawing for your exact finish and revision. Before choosing it, compare the shelf and freezer arrangement with the groceries and serving dishes you actually store. A smaller exterior only helps if the usable layout works for your household. View the Gallipoli white French door refrigerator.
For a counter-depth layout: ZLINE RFM-36
The stainless steel RFM-36 provides 22.5 cu. ft. of capacity and an ice maker. ZLINE lists its body dimensions as 35.75 inches wide, 29.125 inches deep and 69.6875 inches high. The published cutout is wider and taller than the body, so use the complete installation drawing when planning cabinetry. Source: ZLINE RFM-36 specifications and installation resources.
Shortlist this configuration if you prefer its relationship to the counter line and can accept less listed capacity than the standard-depth model below. Check exactly where the doors and handles will sit; “counter-depth” is not a promise that every surface will be flush with your cabinets.

For more capacity and external water: ZLINE RSMZ-W-36-CB
This standard-depth Autograph Edition model offers 28.9 cu. ft., an external water dispenser and dual ice makers. The selected version combines stainless steel with champagne-bronze traditional handles. ZLINE lists dimensions of 35.75 inches wide, 34 inches deep and 69.875 inches high. Shortlist it when storage capacity and dispenser access are priorities. Map the space in front of the refrigerator before buying: the extra body depth can matter beside an island, doorway or narrow walkway. Check water-line access and filter replacement instructions as part of the installation plan. View the RSMZ-W-36-CB refrigerator.
Counter-depth vs standard-depth: decide with a floor plan
Draw the cabinet opening, adjacent wall and island. Add the selected refrigerator's body, handles and door-swing envelope from its own drawing. Check whether you can open drawers, move through the aisle and remove shelves for cleaning in that position.
Compare usable shelf widths and freezer access as well as total cubic feet. A larger stated capacity is not automatically more convenient if the layout does not suit your containers or the refrigerator blocks a working route.
Which French door refrigerator is most reliable?
These specifications do not establish a reliability ranking. We do not have comparable long-term failure-rate data for the three models. Before purchasing, obtain the written warranty and confirm service arrangements for your ZIP code, the process for replacement parts and who handles a claim.
Review the exact model's energy label if running cost is a priority. Compare annual energy use on the same basis, using your own electricity rate, rather than assuming that one finish, brand or capacity guarantees lower bills.
